Last Thursday, August 20th, the Women’s Leadership Council of United Way of Stanislaus County held their “Power of the Purse Mixer”. This is an event that allows women to network and inspire one another all while promoting and getting everyone excited for the upcoming 18th annual Power of the Purse Luncheon that will be held on Wednesday, September 23rd. Last year, this event raised over $44,000 towards expanding the “Graduation Coach Program”, which focuses on keeping at-risk middle school students focused and on the right track towards graduation. Additionally, as a result of the money raised this outstanding organization was able to provide Christmas gifts for the transitional housing program for homeless and foster youth, Pathways.
The theme of this year’s Power of the Purse mixer was “Step Into Your Greatness” which led to a lot of inspiration, as well as a number of fun and outrageous high heels! The evening began with a time for mingling and networking among all of the amazing women in attendance.. Throughout the evening, guests were encouraged to purchase raffle tickets in order to be entered to win one of several fabulous prizes.
In accordance with the theme, there was an “Outrageous Shoe Contest” in which the ladies attending the event were encouraged to wear their brightest, most outrageous shoes as there would be a vote to select a winner.
There were a number of exciting moments for W.E.L.L. that evening as we debuted our updated, Power of the Purse specific chalkboard and Co-President, Alana Scott, had the opportunity to share our story and mission with all of the phenomenal women there.
As with past events, the passion and empowerment that we felt in the air that evening was overwhelming as all of these women from different backgrounds came together to support one another, the Women’s Leadership Council of United Way of Stanislaus County, and the amazing cause behind the Power of the Purse.
